Kiwi fruit is such a fun and refreshing treat, and with it being the season for them, I have been buying them quite often. If you can get past the fuzzy brown exterior, you are in for a treat – and a very healthy one at that. One Kiwi contains more potassium than a banana and more Vitamin C than an orange. They are also rich with Vitamins A & E, and beta-carotene. When ripe, they have a very delicate flavor which taste wonderful in smoothies. Many people are unsure about the tiny black seeds in the center, but they are actually edible! I would compare them to the texture of strawberry seeds, with slightly more crunch.
This morning I concocted a breakfast smoothie with kiwi fruit and it was DELICIOUS. Here’s the recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1/2 c strawberries chopped
- 1 kiwi fruit, peeled and chopped
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 c yogurt (I used the French Vanilla Stonyfield Farm Organic Yogurt, fat-free. You can also you frozen yogurt)
- 1/2 c pineapple juice
- 1/2 c orange juice

I have to start using yogurt. I use kiwi all the time and it’s great. The only difference is I use fresh pineapple and apple juice along with orange juice. Also it helps if the bananas are fully brown because they’re more sweeter. Thanks for the recipe and I’m enjoying a smoothie now with a smile : )
Overripe bananas are sweeter but they give a lot of people the runs too!
